J’naii

Isaiah 5:20 (NASB)
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!”

While I was recently watching “The Big Bang Theory” (episode 18 of season 6), entitled “The Contractual Obligation Implementation,” Sheldon mentions a favorite episode of his from “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” where everyone has the same gender. In episode 17 of season 5, the Enterprise is contacted by a humanoid race called the J’naii. They are a race that has no gender. Sheldon likes the episode because in such a scenario there is no possibility of gender inequality.

Now, on the surface this doesn’t seem that important. However, I think it provides insight into what lies behind the world’s assault on God’s intended order regarding gender role.

Sheldon’s expression of liking the concept of gender neutrality, which by default eliminates inequality between the sexes because in such a paradigm reality is then rendered genderless, is exactly what we now see promoted in all areas of life. In other words, the world attempts to destroy complimentarianism (a theological view that men and women have different but complementary roles and responsibilities in marriage, family life, religious leadership, and elsewhere) by radically denying the natural existence of gender. Successfully eliminating gender to such adherents, means victory for egalitarianism (the complete lack of complimentary roles) in aspects of life where such would be contrary to what God intended. By eliminating gender according to such a mindset, one then eliminates complementary gender roles which are vital aspects of Biblical life, thus, destroying any chance of its survival and masking their culpability before God.

Clever… but it won’t work.

Now, you might be thinking that I’m going a bit beyond the show’s intension. Maybe. However, it does speak to what we (Christians) are being challenged with, where we haven’t been challenged before, at least not this prominently as compared to past history.

Regardless of the nonsense around us, be encouraged, and rest in the assurance of what scripture says…
