2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (CJB)
…it is all from God, who through the Messiah has reconciled us to himself and has given us the work of that reconciliation, which is that God in the Messiah was reconciling mankind to himself, not counting their sins against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore we are ambassadors of the Messiah; in effect, God is making his appeal through us. What we do is appeal on behalf of the Messiah, “Be reconciled to God!”
As shown above, this is a section in the New Testament that speaks about something called the “message of reconciliation.”
This is closely related to, but slightly different from, the word “Gospel.”
It declares that through the death, resurrection, ascension, and enthronement of Jesus, God has reconciled the world to Himself by…
“NOT COUNTING THEIR SINS AGAINST THEM.”
Now, this does NOT mean that everyone will automatically be saved at the future judgement.
This is why just after saying that God is not counting the world’s sins against them, Paul (the writer of this letter) still encourages:
“BE RECONCILED TO GOD!”
It means that a new reality has begun.
Because Jesus has been enthroned as King, access to God has been opened to the world.
The “Gospel” (euangelion in the Greek) is the announcement that this royal enthronement has taken place.
In other words, the Gospel proclaims that God’s Son, Jesus, is now Lord over all creation; and as a result of that enthronement, reconciliation is available.
Each person now stands at a crossroads:
You may enter into this reconciliation by placing your allegiance and trust in Jesus, or you may walk away.
Some have chosen to enter this reconciled reality.
If you haven’t already done so… I urge you to consider doing the same.
Godspeed, to the brethren!
