In my recent blog “The Regularity of Miracles” I made the case that miracles are common:
“Miracles are as normal as those who deny them, and they are as obvious as the Agent who makes them happen.”
The conclusion was substantiated by the fact that in its essence, a miracle happens when the immaterial (agency) affects the material.
(To fully understand the conclusion presented and also the difference between event and agent causation, please read “The Regularity of Miracles” before going any further. The link is provided above.)
Secular Science (SS) is not interested in allowing the evidence nor the data collected, to point us towards conclusions regarding causation which are not solely material in nature. In other words, all explanations regarding reality must be of the physical kind exclusively. Anything offered which presents even the slightest tip of the hat to the existence of the immaterial, nor less to consider it to even be a possible catalyst of causation, is quickly discarded as childish amusement. Such a position by the SS guarantees that agent causation in nature is not even an option. By hijacking science altogether, SS has succeeded in birthing the false dichotomy that one must either side with science or religion. According to them, science and religion is a contradiction is terms. It’s unfortunate, because the irony of it is, science actually exists because of religion.
It was God’s immutability as described in scripture (Hebrews 6:17, James 1:17), which led to the notion that since the heavens declare His glory (Psalm 19:1), there must be observable regularities found in His creation which are consistent with this invisible and unchanging attribute of God Himself. Thus, the discipline of science (the search for regularities in nature) was birthed, and regularities were discovered.
“God is known by nature in His works, and by doctrine in His revealed word.” – Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)
But, today, we (Christians) have acquiesced to the false dichotomy in believing the SS lie, that science is theirs and that it denies Agency. Sorry, fellas, but science is a gift of God. He gave us a reality which verifies what we, mankind, already know:
Romans 1:19-22
“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools.”
Secular Science must deny Agency at all costs. It’s the only way that it can survive.
So, how should we deal with such rhetoric?
Colossians 2:8
“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Earlier in his letter to the Colossians, after clarifying that it is “Christ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge,” Paul immediately encourages the following:
Colossians 2:4
“I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.”
It’s time to no longer be deluded by the plausible arguments made by secular science, and to take back the gift that God gave us.
Ephesians 5:15-17
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Godspeed, to the brethren!
