When Jesus was before Pontus Pilate (the fifth prefect of the Roman province of Judea), though false charges were greatly stacked up against Him, He remained silent.

Think about it….

The Creator of the universe, who had spoken everything into existence…

Psalms 33:8-9 (HCSB)
Let the whole earth tremble before the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it came into being;
He commanded, and it came into existence.

…said nothing.

Nothing…

I find this to be incredibly remarkable. The One who would later be described as having this…

Revelation 19:15a (HCSB)
A sharp sword came from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations with it.

…would, at this critical juncture, remain completely inaudible. The sharp sword which came from His mouth… would remain sheathed. If ever there was a time for a verbal defense, this was it. But, no. The Word of God, instead… would be uncommunicative, allowing Himself to be slaughtered on our behalf…

Isaiah 53:7-12 (HCSB)
He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet He did not open His mouth.
Like a lamb led to the slaughter
and like a sheep silent before her shearers,
He did not open His mouth.
He was taken away because of oppression and judgment;
and who considered His fate?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
He was struck because of my people’s rebellion.
They made His grave with the wicked

God not only brings things into existence by His speech, but He also brings things into being by His silence… our changed selves. He could have just declared it so, verbally… instantly.

But… He didn’t.

Instead, He actually did it in real time… without saying a word.

I have so much respect for that.

…God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by His life!
