A Kingdom of Children

Luke 2:8-12 (HCSB)
In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David. This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in cloth and lying in a feeding trough.”

The idea of God coming to turn things upside down (as a baby), defies all worldly logic. It’s not how we would have written the story about how His kingdom would come. We most likely would have had the exact same reaction as the crowd of 5,000 did, after Jesus had just fed them with just five barley loaves of bread and two fish…

John 6:14-15 (HCSB)
When the people saw the sign He had done, they said, “This really is the Prophet who was to come into the world!” Therefore, when Jesus knew that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He withdrew again to the mountain by Himself.

That’s how we would have done it… force. But, His kingdom is not of this world. It is not brought about by fight…

John 18:36 (HCSB)
“My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If My kingdom were of this world, My servants, would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. As it is, My kingdom does not have its origin here.

The origin of Christ’s kingdom is not brought about by the methods of this world. It is brought about in a different way, through those who are converted and who humble themselves as to what I would liken to “a kingdom of children.” Such are considered to be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven…

Matthew 18:1-4 (HCSB)
At that time, the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Then He called a child to Him and had him stand among them. “ I assure you,” He said, “unless you are converted and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child — this one is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven…”

Godspeed, to the brethren!
