Isaiah 46:9b-10 (HCSB)
“…I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and no one is like Me.
I declare the end from the beginning,
and from long ago what is not yet done,
saying: My plan will take place,
and I will do all My will.”
Let’s face it. There is only one God, and everyone knows it…
Romans 1:20 (HCSB)
“For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.”
Yet, people still attempt to create or even say that there are other gods…
Isaiah 46:5-7 (HCSB)
“Who will you compare Me or make Me equal to?
Who will you measure Me with,
so that we should be like each other?
Those who pour out their bags of gold
and weigh out silver on scales —
they hire a goldsmith and he makes it into a god.
Then they kneel and bow down to it.
They lift it to their shoulder and bear it along;
they set it in its place, and there it stands;
it does not budge from its place.
They cry out to it but it doesn’t answer;
it saves no one from his trouble.”
But, God has a quality about Him which is unique in comparison to us, and whatever gods we could ever possibly dream up from our imagination. The God who we all know is there, is three Persons. The gods we dream up (and even the god we sometimes each consider ourselves to be) are all, only one person.
Think about it…
The Greek gods, the Roman gods, the gods of Hinduism, Islam, Oneness Pentecostalism, the Jehovah’s Witness Religion, Mormonism, the gods of idolatry in scripture (Baal, Chemosh, Dagon, Tammuz, Asherah, Ashtoreth, Molech, etc.), the people in history who claimed to be god (from Jim Jones to Charles Manson, from Sun Myung Moon to Shoko Asahara, from Egyptian Pharaohs to Roman Emperors, the historical list goes on and on) all of them share this same distinction of being only one person.
But, the true God is three Persons…
God the Father…
James 1:27 (HCSB)
“Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
God the Son…
1 John 5:20 (HCSB)
“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true One. We are in the true One — that is, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”
God the Holy Spirit…
Acts 5:3-4 (HCSB)
“Then Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds from the field? Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God!'”
So, how do we identify the false gods?
Again, false gods all share the same distinction… they are each, only one person.
Don’t be fooled…
Ephesians 2:17-21 (HCSB)
“When the Messiah came, He proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. The whole building, being put together by Him, grows into a holy sanctuary in the Lord.”
Godspeed, to the brethren!
How do you answer the fools that say that the Christian God is a plagiarized form of the Sumerian religion?

I would need more information. What would make such a person say that?
