Sons of God

“sons of God”

Have you ever thought about who they are in the Bible?

Be encouraged…

1 Corinthians 15:40 (ESV)
There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another.

Two Different Categories of Beings

God produced two different categories of beings who are supposed to represent or exemplify Him… spirit beings and human beings. Respectively, spirit beings are supposed to exemplify God in the spirit realm, and human beings are supposed to exemplify God in the human realm. The beings who represent God properly (regardless of which domain or realm they are of) are labeled in scripture as “sons of God.” In other words, sons of God can be either spirit beings or human beings.

Spirit Beings

Here is an example of where spirit beings are referred to as sons of God…

Job 38:4-7 (ESV)
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,
when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”

Human Beings

And, here is an example of where human beings are given the same label…

Matthew 5:9 (ESV)
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”

Notice, not all human beings are considered to be sons of God. In the above verse, only peacemakers (according to Jesus) are sons of God. Paul makes a similar point when he wrote to the Romans…

Romans 8:14 (ESV)
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

In other words, unless one is a Spirit of God led peacemaker, one is then not considered to be a son of God.

Back to Spirit Beings

The same goes for spirit beings. Notice in this reference below, Satan (who is a spirit being) is not included with the sons of God…

Job 1:6 (ESV)
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.

The same point is repeated in the next chapter…

Job 2:1 (ESV)
Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord.

Believers

There is no greater honor than to be included amongst the sons of God. If you have faith in Christ, then you are one of the sons of God…

Galatians 3:26 (ESV)
…for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.

Believers, be encouraged! Your status of being sons of God through faith means that you will (in the future age) live forever, because you are considered worthy to share in the resurrection of Christ…

Luke 20:35a & 36 (ESV)
…those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead… cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

Godspeed, to the brethren!
