Philemon 1:4-7
I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, because I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints, and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.
Paul
Paul writes to Philemon about how he remembers him in his prayers…
Why?
Because… Paul has heard about the love that Philemon has expressed for Christ and the brethren.
Philemon
Paul prays that Philemon’s sharing of his faith with others might, “become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.” In other words, their gaining of the full knowledge of every good thing that is in them (through Philemon’s discipleship) is what brings them refreshment. As a result, Christ is then further magnified. It is for His sake (ultimately) that these things happen.
Quarantine
This time of quarantine for all of us is an opportunity to reflect about Christ, each other, to thank God for each other, and to pray for each other.
May we love one another as Paul and Philemon both exemplified (through the power of Christ’s Spirit) so that we might also refresh one another through the knowledge of Christ, prayer, and encouragement (especially now), bringing us all joy and encouragement through such sharing.
And, most of all… in order to bring our Lord glory.
Godspeed, to the brethren!
